1: Bar Bulot – A paradise for sea snail lovers (and everyone else)

“‘Bulot’ means whelk in French – and yes, it’s often on the menu here, alongside loads of other fun, clever dishes. Honestly, the food here punches way above its weight for being inside a market hall. Playful flavours and spot-on cooking. I love everything about Bar Bulot.”

2: Tångbaren – A true taste of the sea

“Hop on the ferry to Styrsö and head to one of the best seafood joints on the coast. My top pick? Langoustines Pil pil in sizzling garlic oil with freshly baked sourdough. Pure magic.”!

3: Ångbåtskaféet Eduard Melin – Go full nautical

“Is Eduard Melin the most authentic place in all of Gothenburg? Quite possibly. A 139-year-old steamboat docked at the Klippan cultural reserve, where chef Sofia B Olsson dishes up waffles and other treats like she was born doing it.”

4: Feskekörka – The fish ‘cathedral’ of Rosenlund

“No, it’s not an actual church – but the ingredients inside might just bring you to your knees. Explore a temple of fresh fish and shellfish, then head upstairs to Lilla Åstols Rökeri for smoked prawns with aioli, a few oysters, or their legendary seafood soup.”

Several different jars of scoop ice cream at Gelaterian in Gothenburg.
Gelaterian serves creamy, flavour-packed scoops of artisanal gelato made with local ingredients.

5: Gelaterian – Because – let’s face it – ice cream is a year-round joy

“Have I mentioned how ridiculously happy I am that there’s proper gelato in Gothenburg? If Cremino’s in the freezer, that’s what you’re getting. Hazelnut and chocolate gelato = forever favourite.”

6: Hasselsson – Elevated Fish and chips

“Sometimes my body just needs Fish and chips, and in those moments I’m so thankful that Hasselsson exist. They make a really great version, elevated with the freshness of herbs and thinly sliced red onions, and given an extra umami boost from grated Italian hard cheese. Also, don’t miss their fish burger, it’s insanely good!”
