Jonsered Gardens (Swedish: Trädgårdar) lies beside Jonsered Manor in Partille, just east of Gothenburg. Wander between clipped hedges, roses, kitchen-garden beds and changing display gardens, then stop for coffee with the greenery close at hand. Admission is free.

Four gardens with different characters

The gardens are a contemporary interpretation of the manor garden that stood here in the 19th century. Its traditional layout, with four sections arranged around a central circle, has been recreated as the Formal Garden, Kitchen Garden, English Rose Garden and Display Garden.

The planting changes with the seasons, while temporary projects and guest gardens add something new from one visit to the next. Beyond the four main sections, you will also find a small vineyard, apple and cherry groves and the Biodiversity Trail, with examples of how ponds, insect hotels and dead wood can create habitats for wildlife.

Coffee and a longer break

There is a café and a small garden shop on site. You can also bring your own picnic and settle down on a bench or on the large lawn beside the manor. Check the current opening hours for the café and shop before setting out.

Getting to Jonsered Gardens

Commuter trains between Gothenburg and Alingsås stop at Jonsered station. From there, follow the signs through Jonsered to the gardens.

Drivers are advised to park by Jonsered’s former factory buildings and walk along the Säveån river, as parking close to the manor is limited.

The paths within the main garden are suitable for wheelchairs and walkers. The Biodiversity Trail Mångfaldsstigen is the exception.
