Källö-Knippla is located in the northern part of the Gothenburg archipelago and is technically made up of two islands that have merged into one, with charming, densely built houses. Narrow streets wind between the buildings, and in the harbour, visiting boats, fish sales and cafés all come together.
Nature, swimming and trail walks
If you enjoy hiking, there’s a scenic 4-kilometre trail that’s part of the Gothenburg Archipelago Trail and the larger Coastal Path (Kuststigen). Pick up a snack or packed lunch from the island’s café or small grocery shop and enjoy it by a grill area or a sun-warmed rock along the way. Fancy a swim? Head to the beaches at Röddeviga or Tranbärsviken.
A genuine harbour idyll
The popular guest harbour offers space for around 130 boats, with barbecue areas, service facilities and close access to everything you need. During summer, the island comes to life with events such as a harbour festival with live music, an auction on the harbour square, and a traditional Midsummer celebration for both children and adults.
Planning to stay overnight? Right in the harbour, you’ll find Knippla Hostel, open all year round. Each room has its own balcony with a beautiful view over the harbour.
Feeling hungry?
There are several food options in the harbour area. Vadbinderiet, once used to make and repair large fishing nets, is now home to a café and bistro serving simple, tasty dishes. Just outside, you’ll also find a pétanque court and a mini-golf course.
You can also visit Matjes and Spiken Bar och Brygga. Matjes serves fresh fish and seafood, often accompanied by live music on weekends. Just behind Matjes, at Spiken, you order your food at the window and enjoy fish ’n’ chips or a burger by the water. Both restaurants are located right on the waterfront.
