Are you curious about timeless Scandinavian interiors made from natural materials? Then a visit to Norrgavel is a must. In the Magasinsgatan store, you’ll find furniture where every detail is carefully considered, from the choice of materials to function and form.

Norrgavel’s philosophy is rooted in functional simplicity. Clean lines, solid wood, and traditional surface treatments such as oil, soap, and egg oil tempera help preserve the wood’s natural beauty and durability.

The story behind Norrgavel

Already in the 1980s, architect and cabinetmaker Nirvan Richter began developing a counter-movement to the prevailing modernist style. His vision was to create furniture that would endure in both quality and expression as an alternative to mass-produced trends.

The breakthrough came at the Bo93 housing fair in the city Karlskrona, where Nirvan furnished an entire apartment with prototype furniture, pieces that are now considered Swedish design classics. The attention was immediate and laid the foundation for what would soon become Norrgavel. The first store opened in Stockholm in 1994, followed by the Gothenburg location three years later.

Design district

Norrgavel is located on Magasinsgatan, a popular shopping street in central Gothenburg. Here you can browse design and interior shops, hunt for vintage gems, or take a break at one of the many cafés and restaurants in the area.
