For a long time, sailors have treated these waters with respect. Off the Bohus coast, the Pater Noster skerries spread out, a difficult-to-navigate area of islands and shoals that has tested both seamanship and courage for centuries. Here, at the farthest point in the sea, in one of Sweden’s most barren and weather-exposed places, Pater Noster was eventually built – one of the country’s most important lighthouses.
The lighthouse and the adjacent lighthouse keeper’s residence were for a long time a vital place to work and live for those who kept the light alive for shipping. Today, the buildings have been given a new function. The former lighthouse keeper’s residence has been carefully converted into an exclusive hotel, where historical heritage meets modern comfort. The site is also open to visitors, and here you can experience cultural history, nature and the sea, in a landscape where the wind is constantly present and the distance to the mainland is palpable.
