The sculpture park in Pilane on Tjörn is open seasonally from May to September. Visit pilane.org for current opening hours.

Located on the island of Tjörn, just north of Gothenburg, the sculpture exhibition has been ranked among the finest in Europe by the The Guardian. Visitors from around the world come here to walk among the artworks while enjoying the sweeping views and beautiful natural surrounding.

Monumental works by world-renowned artists

The sculpture exhibition in Pilane has been held every summer since 2007 and features both permanent sculptures and temporary exhibitions by leading international artists. Among the most famous works is the iconic Anna by Jaume Plensa – a 14-metre-high white sculpture of a woman’s head that has stood on one of the park’s hilltops since 2016.

A cultural landscape on the Swedish west coast

The exhibition area in Pilane is not a traditional park but a living cultural landscape where visitors move freely among grazing sheep or along well-trodden paths between the artworks. Here you can walk across an millennia-old burial ground, climb one of the hilltops, and enjoy mile-long views of the sea and archipelago islands.

As the area is largely untouched natural terrain, parts of it are quite hilly. Reaching some of the artworks on the hilltops requires good mobility. Visitors with limited mobility can still view several sculptures from the central part of the area.

Good to know before your visit:
– You are welcome to bring your own picnic, but please do not eat on or right next to the sculptures as this may disturb other visitors.
– Smoking, open fires and barbecuing are not permitted.
– Adults are responsible for the safety of their children and for ensuring that the sculptures are not climbed on or damaged (visitors may be held financially responsible for any damage).
– Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.
– Pilane is a protected nature and archaeological site, so picking flowers or feeding the animals is not permitted.
