Breakfast spots in Gothenburg

If you’ve ever been to Gothenburg, you’re likely to have visited, at some point, at least one of da Matteo’s three cafés in town. Da Matteo is a local coffee shop chain that to many people in Gothenburg is synonymous with good ‘fika’, delicious pizzas, great coffee and breakfast. The café located at the trendy square on the street Magasinsgatan is no exception. The breakfast here includes sandwiches, porridge with tasty toppings that vary by the season, and of course, juices and coffee.

Worth mentioning is that everything here is made on site – even the coffee is made at the roastery in the same building. No wonder that da Matteo was named the best roastery in the Nordic region in Nordic Best Roasters 2025. We would also like to recommend da Matteo’s own store Handel that is located on Vallgatan 19.

Kafé Magasinet

From 7 am on weekdays and 9 am on weekends (until 11 am), trendy café/bar Kafé Magasinet offers a smaller and a larger breakfast menu, with optional add-ons. Enjoy healthy stuff like avocado, smoothies and juice shots, freshly ground organic coffee and sourdough bread from the inhouse bakery – while observing the city’s creative community who like to hang out here.

Bar Robusta

Near the park Slottsskogen in the Linné area you’ll find Bar Robusta This café is frequented by regulars as well as families with children and people who pop in for a quick drink. Here you’ll enjoy a great cup of coffee, tasty Italian red wine or the popular Bar Robusta ragout. On weekend mornings, however, Bar Robusta serves a popular Italian-style breakfast buffet with all the sweet and tasty goodness that you can imagine. Ristorante Bellora

Matería

Matería is a cosy coffee shop in the Majorna district with great breakfast, lots of green plants and tasty coffee that is roasted here in Gothenburg. The breakfast is served every day from 8.30 on weekdays and 9.00 on weekends. Matería offers breakfast in three different varieties: baguette breakfast, yogurt breakfast and healthy breakfast.

JOS Café

JOS Café is located on the street Lilla Kyrkogatan in the city centre of Gothenburg. Here you can start your day with a healthy and energising breakfast made from scratch with no added sugar. The breakfast consists of sandwiches, freshly squeezed juices, hot drinks and one of JOS’s popular and home-made yoghurts.

Evas Paley

At Evas Paley you can get the massive and affordable Hallelujah breakfast that leaves nothing to be desired. You will get a bun (cheese or egg), yoghurt with muesli, a small hot drink of your choice, juice, and a muffin! If you want something lighter to start the day with or are in a hurry, you can always go for a bun and drink combo! On weekends there is a special breakfast buffet, which is very popular, served between at 9-12.

Roots Café

Having breakfast while you read a new book at the library sounds cosy, right? If you go up to the first floor of the city library, you will find Roots Café. Here on weekdays, you can get a delicious cheddar or egg bun (this is a special one!) with a small hot drink of your choice.
