According to the experts, a mixed forest, with both leafy trees and conifers, is your safest bet for finding wild mushrooms. Keeping track of the latest rain is also a good idea, because about a week later mushrooms tend to pop up where the rain fell. So, bring a basket, a knife, a well-filled coffee thermos and go hunting!
Änggårdsbergen
The city’s closest wild area which is very popular for walking, running and mountainbiking. Here you’ll find the sought after mixed forest that the mushrooms like, and even though many people move around here there is usually plenty to pick for everyone.

Wild mushrooms in central Gothenburg? Sure, those who wander off the beaten paths in the Slottsskogen city park are in for treats like chanterelles and oyster mushrooms. Forgot your Swedish fika at home? No worries, there are plenty of cafés to choose from.

This area is home to broad-leaved deciduous forests where the Scarletina bolete thrives, but chanterelles and various kinds of boletes are also to be found. Why not combine the mushroom hunt with a canoe or kayak tour on the beautiful lakes?

The Delsjö area is a vastly beautiful nature area, where you can find the continuous lakes Stora and Lilla Delsjön.
Vättlefjäll
Step right into the wild in this breathtaking nature reserve just north of Angered. You can easily get here by public transport and there are well-marked hiking paths to folow. Besides the mushrooms, you can enjoy rare plants and birds here.

Vättlefjäll nature reserve is one of the larger open-air recreation areas in the region. Here you can go canoeing or fishing in the many lakes, hike along the trails Bohusleden, Vättlefjällsleden and Pilgrimsleden and enjoy the moorlands, forests and hills.
Landvetter
Nowadays, the name Landvetter will probably make you think of the airport (which in spite of its name is actually located in Härryda), but this area also hosts vast pine forests that the mushrooms like. The areas further north, around Bollebygd and Töllsjö, are also worth checking out.
Risveden
East of Lödöse, some 40 minutes outside Gothenburg, you’ll find the largest forest in West Sweden. Boletes, funnel chanterelles and saffron milk caps are some of the mushrooms that can be found here.
